Thank You Prince!

Sometimes It Snows In April.      My heart is heavy.    There's not much I can say about Prince that hasn't been said a million times already so I'll just focus on my record collection and the incredible Prince gems I have found over the years. I want to share some of my rare Prince bootleg Lp's with you. Here are a few.

Let's start with The Purple Underground Vol.1
These are all studio recordings from the 80's that never made it on various albums. Sheena Easton and Chaka Kahn appear on this Lp.

This was recorded in Milan on June 9th 1987.

This was a post-concert party jam for selected fans in Paris 1987.

This was various live performances from the mid-80's. Some include the Capitol Center, Live Aid, Saturday Night Live, & the 27th Grammy awards.

Recorded live at the Wembley Arena in 1986.

On March 21st 1987 Prince held a unannounced 65-minute rehearsal for his 'Sign O' The Times' tour at 'First Avenue' in Minneapolis.

This Lp is called Pop Life. It's another version of the concert he did at Wembley in 1986. This one is still sealed!

Divinity was tour rehearsals from 1984.

This was the 'much talked about' Crucial Lp Prince recorded with Miles Davis.

This may be my favorite Prince bootleg because it features a version of "Do Me Baby" with a KILLER guitar solo!

Sadly, this was the only time I got to see Prince live. I just stood there in one place the whole night staring in awe at this musical genius. Thank You Prince!

Eye Candy-Pam Grier

I keep trying my best to get close enough to this woman so i can propose to her but i can never seem to get past her security. Oh well, in the meantime i'll just enjoy these pics.

How did you get into dj'ing?

My Uncle was a DJ. He got SDSU on Playboys Top Party Schools List. He also had a Robot as part of the show called Robbie that would come out and move around... (Parliament Funkadelic inspired) so naturally i was into music played (Flue, Trumpet, Clarinet, Alto and Tenor Sax) he started showing me the ropes at 11 and I was hooked!

What are your fondest childhood memories?

Hearing Rappers Delight for the first time. My Uncle was hype! My Uncle Mark was a really great drummer and had a pro set in the garage at my Grandparents house and started to play those. My house holds always had music playing!

What was the first record you ever bought?

Damn that is a good one. With my own money Run DMC, Fat Boys, and Whodini.

What dj/record collector do you admire and why?

There are a BUNCH. Of course Questlove, Diamond D, YOU Darrell D, M2, Jaba One. It just takes another level of passion to track down and sometimes pay out BIG money for those hard to find gems. There is so much music that is out there to collect!

What's the weirdest thing that has happened to you while dj'ing?

Umm I don't have any weird stories just yet.....Oh maybe this, I was playing at Ballroom inside the old Sanctuary night club in Scottsdale and the bouncer came up to the booth and was like look down to the right, it was Charles Barkley and his crew. They gave me props. I was like Yeeeah!

If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you meet?

Without a doubt Brother Malcolm X, Maurice White, Dr. Martin Luther King, Marvin Gaye...Alive- Oprah, Dr Dre, Janet Jackson, & Magic Johnson.

Any other hobbies/interests?

Ummm, I teach Music Business at Phoenix College which is great, shouts out to Karlie Hustle for believing that i could do the job. I also do photography.

If you could be someone else for a day,who would it be?

Man that is interesting. I would say President Obama.

Who is your role model and why?

My Mom and Dad...My Mom because she is a survivor and tough I am glad I got that from her. My Dad is where i get my humor from so yin and yang.

What is your superpower?

Being an absolute Tech Savy, Music & Documentary Loving Dork, and people think I am cool...lol.

What's the best gift you've ever received?

Damn great question!....ummmm there are a few lol... Atari 2600 from my mom as a kid, that was EVERYTHING. My first professional Film Camera from my good friend Kenton. He pushed me to practice, practice, practice. Being able to spend time with the people that love you ultimately, that is the best gift!

What's next for Mattocks?

Just keep creating. I hope to one day be a tour photographer, that would be FUN!... Keep growing Sol Shades and Rhyme and Reason Radio as brands that people know to be quality and to be around. Creative people doing cool creative things!

Masta Ace w/ Strickey Luv

Rap music is in my blood and when it comes to rap it doesn't get much better then Masta Ace. Shockingly, my first live show seeing this "Cold Chillin" alumni wasn't until 2008 when he performed here in Phoenix with the entire EMC crew. I've been down with the Juice Crew since day one and this show was classic.

Ace is known to share the stage with fellow EMC spitter Stricklin. "Strickey Luv",to those of us who know him from Milwaukee, has been murdering mics since the 80's alongside rhyme partner Kid Crab.  In 1986 they released an underground 3 song 12" under group name "Ill Chief Rockers".  The standout track "I Wanna Rock" is still a monster to this day.

"Supergroup" EMC also consists of the greatest freestyle MC on the planet. Big up's to Wordsworth.
