Raps Greatest Top 3 featuring Drunk Jeff

Drunk Jeff was one of the first Dj's I met after moving to Phoenix in 1998.  He himself was new to the area having just arrived from Bakersfield. Back then, you would always find Jeff draped in Adidas from head to toe, a record bag on his shoulder, and a 40oz in his hand. These days he's a family man with a huge room full of records. He turned me on to MF Doom, Freestyle Fellowship, and The Living Legends so you know I had to hit him up for his top 3 rap songs of all time. Take it away Jeff……

Ok… with all seriousness this is hard as hell to do.

#1 Live At The BBQ - Main Source

A lyrical storm from Hip Hops goldern era… First time Nasty Nas was introduced to the masses. One of the greatest posse cuts of all time.

#2 Sucker M.C.'s - RUN-DMC

One of the first songs that was serious straight forward lyrics. Turned a new leaf in Hip Hop. The stripped down rawness of the drum machine and Jam Master Jay's cuts.

#3 Poppa Large - Ultramagnetic MC's

Crazy off the wall uptempo futuristic party rocker. Kool Keith was and is on one. I get hyped with the intro every time I hear it, and then the drums kick in…..man!

Diggers Delight - Darrell D

Well whatdoyaknow, it's looks like yours truly is in the spotlight for this episode of "Diggers Delight"! I'm going to call this part 1 because I got a lot of cool stuff to show you but this will be a good start.

Here's a small portion of my Fat Albert toy collection. Most of this stuff came out in the 70's of course (peep the crazy Fat Albert toothbrush!), but the larger figures were released pretty recently. There are still a few pieces I'm looking for so the search continues….

These pics were taken during a visit from some of the my record homies. Tige Fresh, Drunk Jeff,  & Dj Organic always wild out when they come thru.

This picture says a lot.  Pictured at the top is some of my many autographed rap record covers. As you can see, I really dig collecting action figures too. Many are from my childhood years that I didn't have the opportunity to own then so I continue to hunt them down now. The Mego brand produced some really ill figures, the band KISS being at the top of the list. I also own the Starsky & Hutch figures, the Welcome Back Kotter figures, Star Trek, and some DC & Marvel figures which include a mint condition Falcon in the box.

This is about half of my mixtape collection. All rap related and most are from New York but they also include a nice amount from L.A. including classics from the Roadium Swap Meet, the midwest (Milwaukee and Chicago area) which include mixes from Rock Dee and the Cash Money Brothers, Japan & Europe, and a few hundred Stretch & Bobbito radio show tapes.

Part 2 coming soon!

Beats & Bikes #2

I'm very happy to be invited back to the Phoenix Bike Co. BMX Bike Swap Meet this Saturday. I'm bringing back that "Boom Bap" to get everybody open. I will be rollin with my Crates Records crew so you know there will be lots of rap 12"s for sale.  This show will be packed so get there early!

Recent Digs In Spanish Harlem

These digs were actually from a few months ago when I was in New York. I spent some time in Spanish Harlem where I know of a few low key Latin dig spots. Here's one of them (you're welcome). El Barrio Music Center is located on 117th & Lexington and even though they are mostly a musical instrument shop, they have about 50-60 crates of Latin Lp's. I have never seen so many FANIA records under one roof.  Happy digging!

From Here To Fame Radio Show f/ Darrell D

The guys over at the "from Here To Fame" radio show at KDIF invited me over for a dj set and some cool conversation.  Gonna drop some sample records and keep it funky. Plus, the homie, the legend, Ty Carter (yep, that Ty Carter from TMC Presents), will also be in the house.  You don't want to miss this show. This is going to be fun!

Bobbito's In Town

Bobbito has been touring the world for the last few month's screening his new film "Rock, Rubber, 45's" and blessed the Phoenix area with 2 showings. If you missed either showing you can download it at Vimeo.com.  The Saturday Oct. 20th showing was later followed by the Honest Expression 5 event where "Kool Bob Love" spun an energetic 45 set of latin heat, funk, & b-boy breaks. It was like having a slice of New York right here in the middle of the desert!

Coming Soon-Sputnik Brown/Oxygen/Edan-Jamille Records
